Aveda Essential Oils

Guest Blogger – Alissa Jones

“Aromatherapy” is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being.     In Aromatherapy Massage, these oils are added to the body butter used to enhance the overall massage experience.  We call these natural oils, “Essential Oils.”

It is also widely believed that the inhaled aroma from these “essential” oils stimulates brain function. Essential oils are absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing. One example of this is Lavender, which is well known for promoting a sense of relaxation.

Some ideas for using relaxing Lavender oil in your home:

-Add to bath water for soft, smooth, aromatic soaking.

-Dab some on a tissue and place between pillow and pillow case for calm and restful sleep throughout the night.

-Wipe lightly over light bulbs so when the lights are on, the aroma emanates through the room.

As you may know, SALON EMAGE DAY SPA is an official AVEDA hair salon, and we are proud to announce that we have now added Aveda Essential Oilsto our product collection.  Beginning immediately, the same oils being used in massage in the spa are now being offered to our clients so they can experience some of the many benefits at home.

Make an appointment today for an “Aromatherapy” Massage and we can further discuss the many benefits and uses of Essential Oils.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Have a blessed weekend!

Melanee Montalvo, Owner of Salon Emage Day Spa

You know Salon Emage but do you know Melanee Montalvo, owner of Salon Emage Day Spa. Melanee has been

Salon Emage Day Spa Owner, Melanee Montalvo

working her magic on hair for over 25 years and has owned Salon Emage Day Spa since 2000.

Melanee has not only worked with celebrity hairstylist Alexandre de Paris but she also has quite the background of celebrity clients including the actress Salma Hayek, Cal Thomas syndicated columnist and author, Courtney Robinson Reporter WJLA/News Channel 8, and beloved Fauquier author Susan McCorkindale. Melanee’s achievements do not stop at celebrity clients as she has also done quite a bit of work for television and fashion shows; one of her latest achievements includes styling hair for the Union of Angels commercial. She has also styled hair for an editorial photo shoot for Glamour magazine, Susan McCorkindale’s book promotional video, and numerous runway including: Trouvials Vintage Fashion Show at Twilight Polo, Twilight Polo’s Opening Night “Must Haves” Fashion Shows, and the American Cancer Society’s Silhouettes of Spring Fashion Shows.

When Melanne is not hard at work making sure everyone has fabulous hair, she and her salon are busy giving back to the community. Two organizations they make sure to give to each year are the Fauquier SPCA and the American Cancer Society. There is a lot that can be said about the way the salon gives back. Melanee does not just write a check to a charitable group, she has the salon create events which get the whole community involved. Melanee decided to start a Pooch Shampoo at Salon Emage Day Spa which is held each August. Community members bring their dogs to be washed by salon stylists; the money raised benefits the Fauquier SPCA. In October, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, the salon has Pink Power Parties to give client’s pink extensions with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. The salon also hosts Bras for a Cause asking community members to create bras which are then voted on by the public. This year alone over $2000 was raised in the month of October by Salon Emage Day Spa through Pink Hair for Hope, Shop for a Cure and Bras for a Cause. Through the year, Melanee shows her care and

Melanee Montalvo, Kylie Crane & Sharon Crane

concern for the community she grew up in by supporting a variety of causes.

Melanne’s achievements stop here, but this blog does! Call the salon to make an appointment with Melanee and let her make your hair look like a celebrity’s. Salon Emage Day Spa is located at 51 East Lee Street, Warrenton, Virginia by phone at 540.341.4052 and on the web at www.salonemage.com.

Holiday Hair

Hair and Makeup by Salon Emage Day Spa

Santa Clause is coming to town…

If you are going to be rocking around the Christmas tree at holiday parties make sure to include your hair as a fabulous accessory. Buns, ponytails and half dos are all the rage this season. Here are some helpful hints on how you can have perfect party hair, too!

Buns! To create a loose bun curl hair using figure eights while holding curling iron vertical. Then place hair in a low, loose bun.  Textured buns can be created by blow-drying hair with a diffuser and then creating spirals with a small curling iron. Buns can then be created either halfway or low on the head. Be sure to consider the neckline of your outfit and jewelry accessories when determining where to place your bun.

When creating a pony be sure to tease all the hair around the crown of your head, creating a pouf. Next gather strands into a low ponytail. You can also try placing the pony on either side of the head to create dramatic effects.

Hair by Sam Perry. Makeup by Charla Malone.

Half dos can be created by pulling half the hair up. Consider creating glossy waves by washing and blowing dry hair as normal and then curling hair using a large-barrel curling iron, brushing through the spirals. Or to create a more beachy, relaxed half do look; start by washing and keeping hair damp. Then use a mousse to scrunch hair, curling some pieces with a curling iron, and pulling the top half of the hair back at ear level.

You better watch out…you better watch out for these holiday hair no-no’s.  Mistakes that can take your look to the top of the Santa’s no-no list include: too many tight curls coming from an up do, using gel to create crunchy curls, more than one hair accessory, teasing your hair too much, hair claws that come any shape or form, and using too much product.

You better not pout, you better not cry…let the staff of Salon Emage Day Spa take care of your holiday hair needs. Make sure to book your appointments soon and let our staff give you the perfect holiday up do.

Fall naturally brings change.  The leaves change from bright greens to hues of red and oranges, the days get shorter and cooler and the air begins to smell like fall. Salon Emage wants to help you take that step into fall with a little something for yourself, a new look. You may have been coming to the salon for years, maybe you are new to the salon or maybe you have used the salon for services other than hair.  Anyway you come to us, and we want to take a few weeks to let you get to know our team members a little better and get some style tips, too. We’ve introduced you to Sam, Ashley and Cyndi. Now meet Master Stylist Frank Pinello…

Do you ever wonder what hairstyle would work best for your hair? If so, Frank Pinello, one of our talented hairstylists may be the stylist for you. Frank enjoys helping clients find the best hairstyle for them and then helping them achieve that hairstyle while protecting the integrity of their hair. Once you find the best style for you, Frank recommends that you protect that style with gentle cleansing, daily moisturizing, and a weekly clarifying and protein conditioner. His favorite product is, Detangle Spray by Sexy Hair.

One aspect that makes Frank such a great stylist is that he is able to incorporate all of his many interests: art, science, chemistry, geometry, psychology, communications, sales, relationship building, problem solving, team building, and business into his passion of hairstyling. With any luck he may be able to bring back his favorite hairstyle, Big 80’s Hair!

Frank’s fashion forward trend for fall is to transition highlights and color to a more subdue hue and away from the brighter color of summer. Be sure to call Salon Emage Day Spa at 540.341.4052 to make your appointment with Frank Pinello today.
